This investigates how publishers managed to acquire the reports from Muscovy that ended up in their newspapers and how this news was then transmitted to the West. Maier pays particular attention to the Swedish diplomats who were likely involved in the process. She analyses this dissemination of information in the context of the media sensation that was the Razin Rebellion, which, according to the German press historian Martin Welke, was one of the most frequently reported subjects in the German-language press of the years 1670–71.
