Kheria draws upon her ongoing research project ‘Individual Creators’ that is investigating the interaction between copyright and the everyday life of creative practitioners. Research for the project includes over 100 semi-structured interviews with a selection of creative practitioners (writers, illustrators, composers, and visual artists), fieldwork observation at festivals and relevant events, and the collection of secondary data from social media sources such as Facebook and Twitter. In this presentation, she will discuss some examples of her interviewees' successes and failures in experimenting with finding a balance between sharing work freely and identifying new revenue streams while navigating the complexities of the copyright framework.
