The appendix opens with two sample texts from the various speech recording sessions made by the author during her fieldwork. These two texts represent a monologue and a dialogue and display some of the interesting grammatical features discussed in the book.
To follow the sample texts, the appendix details 14 proverbs collected by the author in Wādī Banī Kharūṣ and al-ʿAwābī with the aim of documenting the local knowledge expressed through popular sayings, as well as creating continuity with Carl Reinhardt’s work. Each proverb is laid out in Arabic script, followed by the transcription and translation, as well as an explanation of the meaning or context of usage. When applicable, the English counterpart is given.
Finally, the appendix includes a traditional song of the Jabal Akhdar region, recited by an old man in Stāl (Wādī Banī Kharūṣ). This song is particularly enlightening because it condenses many of the al-ʿAwābī and Omani-specific traits documented throughout the work.
